The Great Gatsby comes out this weekend and I can’t wait. I love the book and the original 1974 film adaptation, but it’s the remake that really has me excited (and not just for Leo). The F. Scott Fitzgerald classic is set in the Jazz Age, a uniquely fascinating time in American history, following the conclusion of the First World War. It was the Prohibition Era, but it wasn’t called the Roaring Twenties for nothing. Throw in some romance, drama, and fabulous partying, and you have The Great Gatsby. Read more

Kathy Wakile is the darling of the Real Housewives of New Jersey for her down to earth attitude and putting family first. When I got the call to style her for the upcoming reunion, I could not have been more thrilled. I have to admit; one of my guilty pleasures is that I am a Real Housewives super fan. Read more
As we officially approach the end of summer and feel the crisp morning nip in the air, we immediately jump into cozy sweaters and fall boots. We forget that in September we can experience some lovely weather that helps us transition from our Summer wardrobe into our Fall one.
That same principle applies to our jewelry wardrobe! The pieces you have been living in all summer long still have a place in your look for early Fall.
Your favorite gold hoop earrings or that bold watch, work well against the deeper color palettes of Fall.
My top 5 picks for jewelry that will transition you from Summer to Fall…
1) Bold cuff bracelet
The good news is that bold jewelry is a Fall 2012 jewelry trend. Remember that cuff bracelet that you have been wearing with your summer maxi dress? Well guess what? It looks amazing worn over a thin long sleeve cashmere sweater or a silky dress.
These cuff bracelets are a bestseller, combining texture with metal creates a sophisticated yet forward look.
Stylists are showing cuffs worn this way. Often paired with a great hoop earring…which leads me to #2…

There is so much history to Pearls, it is hard not to be enamored by them...A gem that is unsurpassed by it's beauty and elegance, at one point Pearls were only worn by royalty! In today's modern world Pearls are very 'on trend' and I often get requests for them in my store Desires by Mikolay.
What is the allure all about? Well Ancient greek civilizations believed that Pearls where the hardened tears of joy that the goddess of love shook from her eyes when she was born from the sea. With that sort of romantic story, it is no wonder that Pearls are used to celebrate an important anniversary...
The one mystery that surrounds Pearls that I hear again and again is, 'What is the difference between a Cultured Pearl and a Natural Pearl?". I get it...Pearls can be confusing...The easiest way to explain this is that Cultured (or Freshwater Pearls) are created by humans...humans basically mimic the process that happens organically in nature in freshwater. Since they are created and not natural, the price on Cultured (Freshwater) Pearls are less rare and therefor more affordable.
Natural Pearls (or Saltwater Pearls) are much more rare...What happens in nature is that an irritant lodges it's way into the flesh of a mollusk, which in turn than produces a protective substance called a 'nacre'. Over time, layer upon layer of nacre is produced creating a lustrous pearl. Natural Pearls include Akoya, Tahitian & South Sea Pearls. They are much more rare and considered a luxury item.
I love this gem and recently got myself my first set of Pearl studs (at 33! I am not sure how I held out so long!). Even though my personal style is a bit more edgy, I find myself truly enjoying these earrings when I want a simple & refined look...And Pearls go with everything so it makes them easy to wear...
I love answering questions about Pearls so feel free to email me on this, or anything jewelry related to email@example.com. Or if you are in the Westchester area stop by my store, Desires by Mikolay at 55 King Street Chappaqua, NY 10514.
